🎯 The Goal

Lead the Roman Empire as an iconic historical leader, carefully managing resources, conquering wealthy regional provinces, and researching state technologies to complete demanding edicts before your timeline or stability pool collapses.

⚙️ Core Actions

Designed by Joe Klipfel, the game delivers an incredibly crunchy, heavy-weight engine puzzle entirely out of a compact footprint, blending elements of Mage Knight card play with Res Arcana engine building:

  • Select an Emperor: Choose a starting leader card that dictates your unique economic asymmetry, starting resources, and specialized multi-use capability parameters.
  • Manipulate Multi-Orientation Cards: Play and resolve action cards from your hand. Many cards feature complex mechanical triggers based on their literal physical orientation, requiring you to carefully rotate, slide, or flip them to activate specific production pipelines.
  • Spend and Reclaim Influence: Allocate physical influence tokens onto your tableau structures to activate massive resource payouts (Gold, Science, and Military power). Spent influence is rapidly recycled, unlocking hyper-efficient short-term turn combos.
  • Conquer Local Provinces: Spend your military points to march into and claim face-up Province cards from a public market row. Annexing provinces provides permanent resource production but clogs your operational grid if you don’t appease the local masses.
  • Upgrade and Re-wire Your Deck: Pay science points to permanently upgrade your existing building cards. Upgrading physically flips the card over, drastically boosting its power metrics but occasionally altering or locking out its original baseline utility symbols.
  • Fulfill Strict Edicts: Spend your accumulated wealth to satisfy the win-condition Edict cards selected during setup. You must meet all active edict requirements before the final round concludes, or the empire descends into historical obscurity.

🧠 Why you’ll like it

It is an astonishingly deep, heavy-weight civilization simulation packed beautifully into a pocket-sized footprint. The cognitive decision space is delightfully brutal—because cards are multi-use and changing their physical orientation shifts their output completely, every single turn feels like a high-stakes logical optimization puzzle. For solo tacticians who crave zero-luck brain-burners, tight resource margins, and highly demanding, combo-heavy spatial planning, it is a magnificent mechanical triumph.
